This site is for alumni of Sacred Heart Academy, a small parochial school in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. It is not the official SHA Alumni Association site (see link below). Instead you can find historical information about particular classes. For participating class groups, you can also reminisce and stay in touch with your former classmates.

We're just getting started, so if your class wants a spot here, space is available. A class website can include a forum to exchange messages, a wiki where alumni can update their own autobiographies, and an image gallery to share old photographs. Contact Mike Voisin for more information.

The Catholic parish at Mt. Pleasant was begun in 1872 and known as St. Charles. It was in 1889, when Father James A. Crowley bought the site and built the church that stood where the parish hall now is. The name was also changed to Sacred Heart.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart orginated in 1690 when Christ appeared to Margaret Mary Alacoque in France and said "Behold the Heart which has loved men so greatly but which has been given so little love in return."

The Feast celebration began at that time in France and grew throughout the Catholic world until Pope Leo XIII dedicated the whole Catholic world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1889. The feast is recognized as a feast of atonement for known ingratitudes towards God.

Sacred Heart Academy opened August 30, 1889 in the building formerly used as the church. This building was converted to a school as the church was being finished and it no longer stands. It stood where the present, newer high school addition stands. The present, older academy building was constructed about 1909.
